Wildlife and conservation

There's plenty of wildlife on the farm. Throughout the year you can spot Roe deer, Hares, Barn Owls, Kestrels, Buzzards and other farmland birds.

We do our best to manage the land effectively to not only deliver high quality food but also encourage wildlife, protect the quality of drinking our water, improve soil health for a better eco-system and provide a stunning landscape for the public to enjoy.

Gallops Farm is a member of the Arun to Adur Farmer’s Group which is a voluntary initiative with a total membership of 28 farm holdings (large and small) covering over 9000 hectares (22,500 acres) of the chalk South Downs between the two rivers. The Group’s collective work delivers co-ordinated conservation benefits on a landscape scale.

There is a range of high priority species the Arun to Adurs Farmers group focus on. We have set aside a percentage of the farm as dedicated conservation plots.

We have two plots planted with a special seed mix that provides food throughout the winter for declining species of birds such as the Grey Partrigdge, Lapwing and Corn Bunting.
